Luton on Sunday - big story
Local Sunday newspaper, Luton on Sunday,
ran a comprehensive article on Sunday, 28th November, about the Club's
new extension its partnership with Ashcroft High School and the all-weather
pitch, and the Club's general progress over the last few years.
It is printed in full below and we thank the Luton
on Sunday for their interest.
State-of-the-art footie pitch for Crawley Green

Top surface:
Club secretary Ian Freeman is all smiles!
WHAT do David Beckham, Michael Owen and the kids at Crawley
Green Sports Club have in common?
They all play on the same state-of-the-art artificial football pitch.
After months of waiting the sports club is finally getting a new £500,000
pitch in a joint venture with Ashcroft High School. But this is
no ordinary football pitch.
It is called a rubber crumb pitch which is designed to ensure a level
playing field and has a better shock absorbency than grass which reduces
the risk of injuries.
It's the same sort of pitch which is used by footballing giants Real
Madrid and Manchester United.
Earlier this year Crawley Green Sports Club received a £286,000
grant from the FA's Football Foundation to put towards the new
pitch and pavilion extension.
It is even trying to get foundation board member Sir Trevor Brooking
to come down and officially open the renovated ground.
A chunk of the money will also go towards building six new changing rooms.
Earlier this year the club suffered problems because the sewage system
at the ground was too small. Its cesspool was spilling over and sewage
was flowing back into the pavilion.
Luton Borough Council, which is responsible for the sewerage at
the club, has finally pledged to spend the £25,000 the club needs
on a new mains drainage system to replace the old cesspool.
Great
Club secretary Ian Freeman said: "This is
all great news for Crawley Green Sports and Social Club.
"To have the same quality of pitches as the likes of Manchester
United and Real Madrid is just fantastic for a club as small
as ours - we're going to have one of the best artificial pitches in the
south of the county.
"The terrible problems with sewage overflowing back into the club
pavilion are now behind us, and hopefully Sir Trevor Brooking will
be able to come down and open the new ground.
"We now have 30 youth teams and over 100 four to eight-year-olds
signed up, and we're expanding all the time."
