Charity Night - another to remember
The latest charity night was another resounding success
- thanks to the organisers, volunteers and members.
With Ents Secretary Maureen Bowler organising
superb entertainment for the evening, complemented by the volunteer waiters
and waitresses, many members thought this was the best charity night held
at the Club.
Members dipped into their pockets, so much so that we
collected £500 on the night in tips alone! This money will
be presented to the Lady Zia Wernher school for the disabled -
a local charity which we are pleased to support.
The ongoing fundraising to help Sean Downey in
his bid to reach the Olympics reached its conclusion with a grand total
of £1,800 - a tribute to the efforts of many people, including
steward Mick Murphy and members who donated raffle prizes. This
money will go towards Sean's training costs and should he eventually
be selected for the Great Britain Olympics in 2008, then the Club will
offer to do some final fundraising for our young footballer.
Photographs of the presentation of the cheques hopefully
will appear here later.
