Wimbledon FC come to CGSSC

John Doyle, the leading figure in the Youth section's improved
fortunes, has invited Wimbledon FC to bring two of their junior sides
to Crawley Green on Tuesday evening (8th April). A nursery team game and
an U11 match will be played, plus some coaching of juniors and advice
to senior coaches. Wimbledon have expressed an interest in the youth set-up
at Crawley Green as the Club's standing in football circles continues
to grow.
We already have a connection with Charlton Athletic from the
Premier league (some of our youngsters receive coaching and one of our
lad attends their Academy). FA Cup semi-finalists Watford have
also been in touch with John as the youth set-up continues to flourish.
John's report on the match is as follows:
Wimbledon brought along two teams from their development centre
at Milton Keynes - U9s and U11s.

Ronnie Bates youngsters found it hard going against
a terrific set of juniors from Wimbledon.
For us, Ronnie Bates put together a team of players to play against
the U9s. The Wimbledon squad of players were of a very high standard and
it was reflected in the scoreline, after playing four 15-minute periods
Wimbledon ran out 8-2 winners. The scorer of both goals for Crawley was
Newman Carney.
Alan Iddenden's U11 provided the opposition for the other game,
which proved to be a much tighter game. Alan's team, despite losing 4-1,
matched Wimbledon for long periods of the game. The scorer of the Crawley
goal was Dave Card. As the game went on Wimbledon got stronger
and quicker around the pitch, and
finished the game worthy winners.
Although Crawley lost both games our thanks must go to Ronnie, Alan
and their players for putting up fine performances and being a credit
to Crawley Green with the effort they put in - and the great spirit in
which the games were played.
After the games we provided hospitality in the club for eveyone. The Wimbledon
coaches and staff were very impressed with the people running the teams,
and commented on how all the parents and spectators watching were very
friendly and made them feel very welcome.
They were pleased to see such a well run club, and were impressed with
the Club's facilities. Thanks must go to everyone involved with Crawley
Green and Wimbledon FC for making the evening a great success.
