U15s go down fighting
Crawley Green 0 Icknield 1
Crawley Green's U15s went down fighting in a
closely contested League Cup final held at Dunstable Town's ground.
Crawley started brightly, putting the Icknield defence
under pressure but an early lapse in concentration cost them dear. Waiting
for an offside flag which never came, an Icknield forward ran clear of
the lads in maroon and coolly slotted the ball past keeper Bain after
7 minutes.
The next 33 minutes proved much of the same with Crawley
competing well in midfield without looking threatening in attack, and
only a superb save by man-of-the-match Bain kept the score at 1-0
at the interval.
Crawley upped the tempo in the second half and went
close to equalising when a Garrett free kick slammed against the
crossbar with the goalkeeper stranded.

The Icknield keeper saves well low down as Crawley
look for a loose ball.
Urged on by the combative Flecknell, Crawley
again had slightly the better of the possession but Icknield always looked
the more likely to score and Bain proved his worth with three more
terrific saves.

The maroons go close . . . but not close enough!
The youngsters did themselves proud with Garrett
looking solid at the back and Flecknell and Fletcher having
good games but the
1-0 scoreline was probably a just reflection on the game as Icknield ran
out worthy winners.

Once more the Crawley boys test the keeper

Our gallant U15s receive their runners-up medals.
