Ronnie Whelan at CGSSC
Friday, 16th March 2007
Our first Friday afternoon Sportsman's Dinner proved
a terrific success with all seats taken and many new visitors being introduced
to the Club.
This event was a fundraiser for the Saturday side and
many thanks go to Eddie and Janet Downey for their outstanding
help in ensuring this was another superb day - adding to the reputation
at Crawley for providing great value and superb entertainment for our
football lovers.
Today's guest speaker was Liverpool and Eire legend
Ronnie Whelan who entertained one and all with some superb anecdotes
about his time with Liverpool, scoring a goal for his boyhood heroes (Manchester
United) at the Stretford end but unfortunately whilst playing for Liverpool.
Other great stories mentioned Boby Paisley, Joe Fagan, Kenny Dalglish
and Jan Molby - one or two classics.
Following the usual excellent 3-course meal, the afternoon
was complete when comedian Rod Beech ensured everyone went home happy
with a bawdy 45 minutes of comedy.
Below are a few pictures of the afternoon

The Committee pose with Liverpool legend Ronnie Whelan.

Members and guests enjoy a superb 3-course meal before
the entertainment begins.

Cora, owner of the Man-Ho restaurant, supplied
us with two great prizes for the raffle and was lucky enough to have her
picture taken with Ronnie . . .

. . . whilst soccer tart Ken Bunker once again
managed to get his picture with the rich and famous.
Our thanks go to everyone who kindly donated raffle
and auction prizes for the event and to everyone who attended.
The next sportsman's dinner, in April, has another Liverpool
superstar, Bruce Grobbelaar, as our guest speaker.
Don't miss this one.
