2006-07 Veterans' Review
Thursday, 9th August 2007
We have come to the end of another season of vets football
at Crawley Green, the last game being held on Sunday 5th August - very
late because St Albans Vets only play in the summer. Anyway, a cracking
performance and 8-0 scoreline tells everybody that the old 'uns can still
play a bit, but it's a lot slower now than it once was!.
The player who has stood out this season for us is Damien Hunt
(most promising old youngster/young oldster) closely followed by big brother
Steve, and Youngie (Jason Young) played very well when he
turned up at the right time!
Plus I have managed to encourage players from yesteryear
once again to grace the Crawley Green shirts, Wayne Leslie,
Trevor daSilva and Graham Goodge all made their debuts for
the vets team and hopefully will play on next season. Also a big thank
you to the lads who stepped in at the last moment like Craig Freeman.
We have tried to increase the number of teams we play against and the
Watford, Barnet andSt Albans teams have all been very impressed with our
club and want to come back again. They have also invited us to their home
grounds so we may be travelling away in the near future . . . I did say
maybe!
I would like to say another big thank you to all the
members of the Club who supported us when we needed to raise money for
one of our injured players (Pete Kerrigan) and fingers crossed
he is nearly fully fit again (was he ever?)
This only leaves me to say a very big thank you to Maureen
Bowler, Reg Freeman, Mick Murphy, Tony Talbot and the rest of the
committee for all their help behind the scenes, as you know it just wouldn't
happen without these guys
Thanks and cheers for now,
Danny Austin

PS: the first game of the new season is 16th September against Old Dunstablians
- venue is to be decided in next few days.
