Crawley Girls help Beds win Cup
Saturday, 4 March 2006
Seven players from the Crawley Green U10s andU12s girls' teams were in
the squad of eight that helped Someries Junior School win the South-East
England U11 6-a-side Schools Cup, held at Greenwich. Someries were representing
Bedfordshire in this prestigious tournament.
In the group stages the girls beat the county winners from Middlesex
and Norfolk, drew with Suffolk but lost to Sussex
which meant they finished runners-up in the group and qualified for the
semi-finals.
In the semi-final they beat the winners of the other league group the
county winners from Kent 1-0 with Crawle's U12s Sarah Leah
scoring the goal.
In the final they again met Stafford Junior School from Suffolk,
the only team to have beaten them in the group stages.
After a goalless game and goalless period of extra time the girls won
4-3 on penalties to be crowned South-East England Champions.
They now go on to represent the South-East of England at the National
Finals to be held at Keele University (Stoke) on Saturday
17th June.

The success of the School in this tournament reflects
on the improved coaching levels at Crawley who also help the school with
their coaching facilities.
